I was raised in upstate New York (Rochester) for most of my life. In 1997, I moved to Maryland to participate in the Americorps program, where I worked for the Silver Spring Police Department Victim Services Division. I worked with domestic violence victims--finding them resources, meeting with them for emotional support, and helping them fill out the Crime Victims Compensation paperwork. I loved that position, but it was only a year long project.
In 2002, I started college at Sam Houston State University. I formed and was President of an organization called the Crime Victim Services Alliance, for students interested in working with crime victims when they graduated. I also attended many trainings and conferences, including ASV. I also volunteered at the SafeHouse, a domestic violence shelter, as well as for a short time with MADD. When I graduated in 2005, I moved to New Jersey and assumed the position of State Victim Advocate for MADD. In October 2007, I moved to Indiana to serve as the State Victim Assistance Coordinator of MADD for that state.
